Hi All,
My name is Ajay and I live in Chennai, India. I've always been an underperformer at school and at work. I changed jobs frequently as I was getting fired or quit unable to take the pressure to perform. I resorted to change career fields and everywhere I seem to fail miserably with the tasks that are asked of me to do. Im not lazy at all. I have enough energy that at times I feel like I would burst. Recently I discovered why Im like this. Why Im not able to perform at work and why I was bad in school. I recently discovered that Im dyslexic. I was shocked and a bit relieved that I'm not dumb and stupid; it is just that I need a bit more support to learn and work.
Im not aware whether employers are ignorant or sensitized about dyslexia and adult dyslexia for that matter. Latest I took up a writing job and that is when all of it climaxed and I struggled to immensely to sustain my job. When I confided in my line manager about my disability, he didn't understand what it was and he was persistent in pushing my limits.
I was fired last March and I'm unemployed yet again. Now employers are not willing to hire me as my profile looks inconsistent. I took a lot of interviews and was rejected everywhere because of my inconsistent profile. I tried explaining about my disability and no one seems to understand my issue which is entwined with my work.
Ive experience in guest relations (in person) or any job that involves extensive talking, instructing and guiding in person, training and social media monitoring. I would like to know if there are employers who are empathetic towards dyslexic adults and employ dyslexic adults like me and not discriminate. Im on the lookout for empathetic employers who can employ me not as a favor and for charity but give me an unbiased interview understanding my disability. Are there any?
By the way I proof read the above content 7 times. I might have made mistakes. Please excuse them.
