Origin and meaning of the word "bhugol"

I saw this video, posted in this forum, which talks about this word "bhugol".

Bhu meaning earth and gol meaning round. Upon googling the word, it has its origin in sanskrit.

Did "Hind-ians" (people from hind) randomly come up with this word or did they actually know the earth was round. If they knew, how did they get to know.

Was this word formed after the west proved earth is round or before when everyone believed the earth is flat.
